Dr. James Layson Orthopedic Surgeon

Dr. James T. Layson specializes in hip and knee replacement surgery for the management of arthritis. He completed his extensive orthopedic training at Ascension hospitals outside of Detroit, and further honed his skills during a fellowship in Adult Reconstructive Surgery at Lenox Hill Hospital in New York City. Driven by his passion for improving patient outcomes, Dr. Layson has made signiticant contributions to the field through extensive research. He has been published in multiple peer-reviewed journals on a variety of topics and has had award-winning presentations at various conferences across the country.

Dr. Layson is comfortable with a variety of surgical techniques, including the newer direct anterior approach for hip replacement and partial knee replacement, for select candidates. He is also proficient in multiple cutting-edge technologies including navigation, robotics, and augmented reality. With this broad experience, Dr. Layson considers the best techniques for the specific needs of his patients.

A compassionate orthopedic surgeon dedicated to providing exceptional care to his patients, Dr. Layson believes in a personalized approach to patient care. He values open communication and collaborates with his patients to keep them actively involved in their treatment plans.

Dr. Layson understands the importance of maintaining an active lifestyle, wanting his patients to be able to continue their passions and hobbies for as long as possible to enhance their quality of life. He enjoys golfing, tennis, flyfishing, hunting, hiking, running, and exploring everything San Diego has to offer with his wife and two boys.
