Dr. Andrew Cooperman Orthopedic Surgeon
Dr. Cooperman was born in Los Angeles, but considers himself a San Diegan after obtaining both his Bachelor of Arts in Chemistry (1980) and Medical Doctor degree (1984) from the University of California, San Diego. He completed his residency in Orthopedic Surgery in 1989 at the University of Michigan Hospitals in Ann Arbor, Michigan, returning to North County, San Diego and entering into the private practice of orthopedics in 1990. After his successful solo practice in our community for 24 years, we proudly welcomed him as a member of OSNC in 2014.
As a native Southern Californian, Dr. Cooperman is keenly aware of the active lifestyle afforded by our pleasant year round climate and varied geography. He was the first orthopedic surgeon in North County to earn Sub-Specialty Board Certification in Sports Medicine. He has extensive experience in advanced arthroscopic surgery of the knee and shoulder and is the only orthopedic surgeon in North County, San Diego with in depth training and experience in the non-operative and arthroscopic management of hip disorders, including hip impingement (FAI) and labral tears.
Dr. Cooperman has been on the forefront of joint replacement procedures of the hip and knee, pioneering the direct anterior approach for hip arthroplasty at Tri-City Medical Center using the specialized Hana Table. Dr. Cooperman was the first surgeon in North County to use customized Patient Specific Instrumentation, using computer design for individualized total knee replacement surgery. He is an active member of the Quality and Operations committees of the Orthopedic and Spine Institute at Tri-City Medical Center working to improve patient outcomes and ensure the highest level of care to patients undergoing joint replacement procedures.
Doctor Cooperman derives great pleasure from his time spent interacting with patients in his clinic and finds no satisfaction greater than the return of function and improved quality of life in his patients after successful surgical intervention.
Dr. Cooperman is married to Christine, a Cardiac Rehabilitation nurse at Tri-City Medical Center. He cherishes the time spent with her and his two sons, Carter and Adam, traveling, skiing and at sporting events, especially baseball. He is an avid deep sea and fly fisherman, annually seeking the time to enjoy the outdoors and hook into large tuna, steelhead or trout.

Dr. Cooperman's Reviews
Great results from my recent total hip replacement procedure by Dr. Coopermen. He takes the time to answer any questions I had before and after the procedure. Very professional and friendly at the same time.
