Common forms of physical therapy include:
• therapeutic exercise
• neuromuscular re-education
• manual therapy (mobilization, manipulation, stretching)
• physical and mechanical therapy (ultrasound, electrical stimulation and traction)
• functional training in self-care and home management
Depending upon your specific needs, physical therapy could be prescribed to increase range of motion, reduce pain, restore function, or prevent disability. In some cases, physical therapy may postpone or even eliminate the need for surgery.
