Orthopaedic Specialists of North County now offers Injectable Platelets & Growth Factors for the treatment of tendonitis (repetitive or overuse injuries) and tendonitis (a chronic degenerative condition). Both conditions affect normal healing processes and can lead to pain and dysfunction.
For over 20 years injectable platelets therapy has been used in a wide variety of medical treatments including cardiac surgery, oral surgery, dentistry and periodontal implants, orthopaedics, wound care, sports medicine, neurosurgery, general surgery and cosmetics.
At Orthopaedic Specialists of North County, platelet therapy can be used in the treatment of:
• Shoulder Pain: rotator cuff tendonitis/tendonapathy, triceps tendonitis
• Arm Pain: biceps tendonitis, elbow tendonitis/tendonitis (tennis elbow), wrist tendonitis
• Hip Pain: trochanteric bursitis, hamstring tendonitis, quadriceps tendonitis
• Knee Pain: patella tendonitis (jumper's knee)
• Foot and Ankle Pain: Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis |
How It's Done
A very small amount of a patient's blood is withdrawn from an unaffected area, much like a standard blood sample. The tube containing blood is then spun in a centrifuge to separate the platelets and growth factors from other components in the blood. The separated platelets and growth factors are then re-introduced into the injured area using a sterile syringe. Absolutely no animal products or foreign materials are used. Because the platelets and growth factors are returned to the same patient, there is no risk of rejection or disease transmission.
How It Works
When you suffer an injury, your body begins a natural process to repair the damage by signaling platelets to migrate to the injured area. This process initiates healing. The Injectable Platelets & Growth Factors therapy offered by Orthopaedic Specialists of North County utilizes the platelets separated from your blood and injects them directly into and around the injury, "supercharging" your body's ability to repair tissue. More rapid healing, reduced pain and a quicker return to activity has been reported by many patients.
If you have been exploring alternatives to surgical treatments, Injectable Platelets & Growth Factors therapy may be a viable option.
